Hood River Just Won Travel + Leisure’s Best Small Mountain Town in America
Hood River just got named the best small mountain town in America.
Travel + Leisure released its 2026 list of America’s best small towns this month, and Hood River topped the mountain town category — ahead of every other town in the country. (Read the full write-up.) If you’ve been putting off the trip you’d need to book anyway, that’s your excuse.
Why they picked it
T+L called out what people who live here already know: this isn’t just a windsurfing town. The write-up leans on year-round adventure — windsurfing, kiteboarding, and paddleboarding on the Columbia, mountain biking and hiking through the Gorge, the Mosier Twin Tunnels trail — but the parts that got real column space were the orchards, the food, and the hospitality that’s opened here in the last year.
Sixteen thousand acres of pear, apple, and cherry orchards, some dating back to the 1850s. The Fruit Loop, a thirty-five-mile drive through farmland and vineyards. pFriem down by the water. Votum for something more composed. Industrial Street Studios and the Lightwell Hotel + Spa, both new in the last year.
None of that is about us. It’s about the town Vital Reset happens to be in — and it’s the same reason we keep telling out-of-state clients to build a few extra days around their session instead of flying in and out.
What it means if you’re planning a visit
If you’ve read our guide to coming to Hood River for a session, you already know the shape of it: settle in the day you land, your session on day two, rest and integration on day three. None of that changes.
What changes is what the extra days look like. A national best-small-mountain-town title means more of them are worth spending here on purpose — a morning on the Fruit Loop before your session, dinner at Votum the night after, a walk along the waterfront instead of another hour of scrolling in a hotel room three states from home.
We’re not going to pretend the award has anything to do with the work we do inside our building. It doesn’t. But if you’re already flying to Hood River, it’s good to know the place earns the trip on its own.
