Running a psilocybin service center is deeply rewarding—but I’ll be honest, it’s not easy. There are days when the weight of regulations, logistics, and financial realities feels heavy. Yesterday started out as one of those days.
By the end of the day, I was reminded of why we opened Vital Reset in the first place.
We had two clients in the service center for mushroom journeys—and both had fantastic experiences. One client was taking psychiatric medications, which can sometimes make it harder to access the full psychedelic effect. We had to work with her carefully, patiently, and with trust in the process. And she got there—lifting off into her journey in a way that was deeply meaningful for her.
The other client’s experience was pure joy. About forty-five minutes after his dose, he began laughing—and from what I could tell, he had a “happy, happy time” the whole way through.
At the close of the day, another facilitator dropped by. Soon four of us were sitting together, talking, laughing, and sharing what this work really means.
One conversation in particular stayed with me. I asked facilitator Jadryn Ownbey how he was doing financially. He told me about working at other service centers and how little time he was able to spend with clients there. Sometimes no more than an hour of preparation, and often very little integration afterward. It wasn’t what he wanted, but it was all their system allowed.
Then he said something that made my heart catch:
“Of all the service centers I’ve worked at, and it’s a lot of them, Vital Reset is the one that prioritizes the client the most. If I had my way, I’d only work at Vital Reset.”
That is exactly what we set out to do. From the very beginning, we wanted to be the place that gives facilitators the time and support to do their best work—and gives clients the chance for the deepest, most transformative experience possible. Hearing it back from one of our own team members was the encouragement I didn’t even know I needed.
Today, thinking about all this, I realized something else. Just having two people on mushrooms in the center yesterday encouraged me! Whenever I feel discouraged, the surest way to lift my spirit is to sit with someone in a psilocybin journey. So just now, five minutes ago, I walked to the office of a friend who has been wondering about having a journey for two years now—and offered her a free 5 mg journey. She’ll likely come in within the next couple of weeks.
It makes me happy knowing that this small gesture will do her good. But it will also do me good—because the heart of this work is not in spreadsheets or strategies. It’s in the simple, sacred act of showing up for one another.
That’s what keeps me going. That’s why Vital Reset exists.
