Striking black-and-white illustration of a leafless tree shaped like a human brain, symbolizing neuroplasticity and the deep cognitive integration possible with psilocybin Oregon experiences. Vital Reset supports safe psilocybin treatment and magic mushroom therapy through licensed psilocybin retreats that highlight psilocybin benefits, psilocybin dosage understanding, and the potential of legal psychedelics in Oregon.

While teaching at Harvard Law School’s Psychedelic Bootcamp 2025, I had a conversation that opened up a new line of thinking. A personal injury lawyer approached me—not curious about the therapeutic effects of psilocybin, but about how it might intersect with her legal practice.

She shared an idea I hadn’t considered.

What if a client with a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—say, from a car crash—completed cognitive testing before and after a psilocybin journey? The results might not just demonstrate healing, but also provide clear evidence that an injury had occurred in the first place. In a courtroom, those changes could help a jury understand just how much the brain had been affected.

It was a legal use case I hadn’t imagined—but it resonated with what we’ve seen.

What We See at Vital Reset

At Vital Reset, we’ve supported a number of clients navigating life after TBI. Some arrive soon after their injury, while others come in months or years later, frustrated by stalled progress and symptoms like brain fog, mood swings, headaches, seizures, and emotional dysregulation.

We don’t make medical claims—but we’ve observed that clients who engage in psilocybin work within the first year of their injury often report greater improvements. They describe feeling more like themselves again—thinking is clearer, mood is calmer, and life seems more doable.

That lived experience is now being echoed by early research.

Animal Research: Stunning Reversals After Head Injury

A 2025 study out of Northeastern University investigated what happens when rats with mild traumatic brain injuries receive psilocybin. The results were dramatic.

Psilocybin-treated rats showed:

  • Reduced brain swelling (edema)

  • Restored integrity of the blood–brain barrier

  • Decreased buildup of harmful tau protein

  • Improved functional connectivity between brain regions

One researcher called the brain’s response “stunning.” Psilocybin not only helped stabilize the injury—it appeared to help the brain reorganize and reconnect. You can read the entire study here: Psilocybin as a Treatment for Head Injury

While animal studies can’t predict individual human outcomes, the results align with what some of our clients have experienced after a journey: greater clarity, more emotional regulation, and renewed cognitive energy.

What Might Be Possible?

We don’t know yet whether psilocybin journeys will become part of legal strategies in the future. But we do know that psilocybin is legal in Oregon for adults over 21, with no need for a prescription or medical diagnosis.

If someone you know is recovering from a traumatic brain injury—or if you’re a therapist, caregiver, or personal injury lawyer working with clients who are stuck—it may be worth exploring whether a legal, supported psilocybin experience could help.

You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck

TBI can be isolating. Many clients describe feeling like their old self is “just out of reach.” Psilocybin journeys, when approached with care, structure, and professional support, may offer a way back to that self—and a new chapter in the healing process.

If you’re curious, we’re here to listen.
